The Sierra Madre City Council will discuss instituting new water conservation measures at its meeting Tuesday night.

As discussed on the site last week, the city says it has had to reduce the pumping of local water by 47 percent as the result of low local rainfall this year.  The city has already instituted some very basic water conservation measures.

The new measures, which can be viewed in detail in the city's report, would set up fines for those who were not able to curtail their water usage to "90% of 80% of their 2007-08 use."

The city would send out a mailer explaining the new rules, how to better conserve water and telling each household whether or not their current usage met the new required targets.

Editor's note: The original version of this story said the meeting was on Wednesday night
