Wake up folks, Disruptive students, aggressive students, and just plain jerks ruin it for allRead More students. They jeopardize safety now and success in the future. Perhaps Pasadena has a high rate because there are more spoiled jerks here. The High School I know has high level of care for all of the students, and won't put up with continued bad behavior, and that's a good thing.
A rendering of the project from PUSD files.

The 'other' category will go away. Not only is PUSD implementing a program intended to simply doRead More away with suspensions (not necessarily their causes), but the state is also looking to make out of school suspensions illegal for primary students for what is called 'willful defiance'. Probably the majority of that 'other' group. The point of highlighting numbers like this (or disparities like those shown in the other race-based posts on suspensions) is so that people can discuss them and decide what the problem is...so that... wait for it... we can FIX it! But true to our reactive form, we instead will simply do away with suspensions so that we can say suspensions are down. tf, i think most americans failed statistics. although what you said has an explicit meaning, most people wont be able to distinguish that from the situation where its 1 in 10 children. I would also point out that about 40% of our community goes to private school (one of the highest rates in the country for our size) and the charter school enrollment growth is on an exponential growth curve. This is changing the public school enrollment to be something very unrepresentative of our communities. To point to the public school and say they are the cause of that is wrong. We need to look in the mirror.
