Sat. Meeting About New Swim Program

Sierra Madre's pool will be operated by a new company starting June 9. If you're interested in giving feedback about recreational swim or the cost of swim lessons, attend a meeting this Saturday.

The company Waterworks Aquatics will take over operation of Sierra Madre's Aquatics Center on June 9. Previously, the pool was operated by the city.

The new company will bring changes to the pool schedule, swim lessons, swim team and other programs. 

Residents interested in learning more about Waterworks, the proposed changes, and giving feedback to the operating staff can attend a at 10:00 a.m. at the Aquatics Center, 611 E Sierra Madre Blvd. in Sierra Madre.

So far, here are the proposed times for lap swim and recreational swim in the wading pool and large pool:

Recreational Swim, Small Circular Pool:

  • Monday through Friday: 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Saturday and Sunday: 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Recreational Swim, Larger Six-Lane Pool:

  • Monday through Friday: 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
  • Saturday and Sunday: 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Cost: $3.00 per person

Weekday recreational swim in the large pool will be offered in three pool lanes, while weekend recreational swim will be offered in two pool lanes.

Lap Swim, Larger Six-Lane Pool:

  • Monday through Friday: 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday and Thursday: 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
  • Saturday and Sunday: 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.

Cost: $60 per month or $6 per visit. Or, $5 per visit when buying four or more sessions at once.

Waterworks Aquatics' lease will ease the city's budget woes somewhat, saving $103,594 for fiscal year 2012-13.
