La Salle Shows Promise in Claremont Passing Tournament

Lancers' run ends with loss to Northwood in second round.

The La Salle Lancers had a very motivational speech from head coach Antoine Peterson after the game when they were defeated by Northwood in the second round of the Claremont Passing Tournament.

After they were taken down 24-14 many of the players felt deflated, knowing they have had a very rough year and a half since transitioning divisions. Peterson wouldn’t allow that in his squad.

“It’s the element of the game that holds us dear,” Peterson said.  “You play 60 minutes of football, and when each play is gone its gone forever. When it comes down to it you need to bounce back with adversity no matter what. That’s just the game of football.”

La Salle has a very bright future ahead of them in the coming months. During the tournament over the last two days the Lancers were able to split their wins in six games, and are beginning to show signs of consistency. It showed tremendously in the first game against host Claremont, maintaining the lead throughout their battle and picking up a 24-22 victory.

Northwood eventually took whatever momentum they had away from them, picking up constant drives for at least 20 yards in more than half their pass plays. Defensively the Lancers didn’t look all that sluggish, but the attitude has definitely picked up from recent years.

Last year the Lancers finished 0-10 with an average margin of defeat well above 25 points. This last week of summer practice might be deemed as the most important for the Lancers, trying to end strong and flourish from their success thus far this summer.

“This last week will be a springboard of where we want to be,” Peterson said. “We played some great competition out there, leaving away from it in a good place to where we are.We just need to transition now to putting the pads on and set the tone to have a great fall camp.”
