Community Update

The Sierra Madre Playhouse (SMP) and The Colburn School of Music announce that Colburn Conservatory Students from its class, The Working Musician, will be performing a series of 6 concerts throughout the year at the Sierra Madre Playhouse beginning Sunday, October 6, 2013 at 7:00 p.m.
This joint venture between SMP and The Colburn School will further SMP’s broadening mandate to become home to a variety of entertainments for Sierra Madre and its surrounding communities.

“We want to be more than a theater to Sierra Madre,” said Christian Lebano Board Member and Producer of the Sunday Series. “We want to be a place that people think of on Sundays for music and other entertainments. There are a lot of folks who don’t go to theater but love music – the Sunday Series is for them.”

The concerts will be student devised and performed by ensembles of different sizes throughout the year. Drawing from The Working Musician class taught by Nate Zeisler and Laura Liepens at The Colburn School students will gain experience working with outside producers, marketing themselves, developing an interesting musical program, and exploring ways to become financially self-sufficient while providing a concert of beautiful music to the patrons of SMP.

"All of our Conservatory students perform at an incredibly high level, and we are very thankful to the Sierra Madre Playhouse for providing a professional performance opportunity such as this which is invaluable to their growth and development. We're very excited to be able to give them a chance to share their talents with the Sierra Madre community." —Laura Liepins, Director of Artistic Administration and Career Development at the Colburn School and co-teacher of The Working Musician.

"We are thrilled to be able to offer this wonderful opportunity for Colburn Conservatory students in partnership with the Sierra Madre Playhouse. Partnerships such as this provide action-based, experiential learning opportunities for our students that enable them to get a glimpse of working with a professional presenting organization." —Nathaniel Zeisler, Director of Community Engagement at the Colburn School and co-teacher of The Working Musician.

More information about each individual concert will be available on both SMP’s and The Colburn School’s websites at: www.sierramadreplayhouse.org/sundayseries/colburn and www.colburnschool.edu six weeks before the concert.
