Updated: Move to Censure PUSD Board President Fails

A vote on moving forward with a censure hearing failed to gain majority support in a 3-3 vote at Tuesday's hearing.

A motion to go forward with a censure hearing against Pasadena Unified board president Renatta Cooper failed at Tuesday night's hearing after a split 3-3 vote, according to district spokeswoman Hilda Ramirez Horvath.

Several board members had pushed for a censure hearing on the grounds that Cooper had disclosed information about a closed session vote on whether or not to hire current Superintendent Jon Gundry.

Back on June when , Pasadena Weekly quoted  Cooper as saying that in a Saturday closed session of the board, members Ramon Miramontes, Kim Kenne and Scott Phelps voted against selecting Gundry.

According to Ramirez, board members Kenne, Miramontes, and Tom Selinske voted in favor of holding a censure hearing, while Cooper, Ed Honowitz, and Elizabeth Pomeroy voted against.  Phelps was not present during the vote.
