See Which PUSD Districting Maps the Council Backs

Two draft maps would give Sierra Madre a majority of the vote when electing a Board of Education member.

New voting districts will soon be finalized for residents in the Pasadena Unified School District. Each district will be responsible for electing one Board of Education member.

Bart Doyle, Sierra Madre’s representative on the PUSD Districting Task Force, presented four draft maps to the City Council Tuesday night and asked for their opinion.

All of the maps would keep Sierra Madre whole, but maps 3 and 3-1 would essentially make Sierra Madre “the big fish” in their district, and allow the city to have a majority of the vote. This could open the potential for someone from Sierra Madre to be elected to the School Board… something that has historically been difficult to do, according to Mayor John Buchanan.

In Maps 3 and 3-1, Sierra Madre would be aligned with communities that are socio-economically similar, like San Pasqual, Chapman Woods and neighborhoods down Rosemead and across Huntington Drive.

Doyle will now return to the Task Force with the Council’s input and input from residents who attended the PUSD presentation on Monday night at City Hall.
