PUSD Student Pass Rate for CAHSEE in Line With County, State Results

Pasadena Unified School District students passed the test given to tenth-graders statewide as part of their graduation requirements at about the same rate as the county as a whole, but were slightly below state averages.

Pasadena Unified School District students matched county passage rates for the California High School Exit Exam, though were slightly below state averages for the 2011-2012 school year..

The state mandates all 10th-graders take the CAHSEE in order to receive their high school diplomas, although those who do not pass have multiple opportunities during their junior and senior years to retake the exam.

Eight-two percent of PUSD students passed the English and Language Arts portion of the exam, and 82 percent also passed the math portion.

Comparatively, 83 percent of students statewide passed the English and Language Arts portion of the exam, and 84 percent passed the math portion. In Los Angeles County, 82 percent of students passed the math portion of the CAHSEE, while and 81 percent passed the English and Language Arts portion.

Test results for PUSD broken down by demographic categories and other information is available on the California Department of Education Web site.

What do you think of the results? Are you surprised?

""Eight-two" percent of PUSD students passed the English and Language Arts portion of the exam....." Let me guess...the authors (and editors???) of this article were educated in Los Angeles County schools? Years ago, a local paper did a great issue comparing PUSD students to students in other local districts such as Alhambra, Arcadia, San Marino, Monrovia, and San Gabriel. Only Duarte did as badly. Let's see THOSE current comparisons!!
