PUSD Facilities Subcommittee re Sierra Madre Middle School
MEETING TODAY
Pasadena Unified School District
Special Facilities Sub-Committee Meeting
Tuesday, June 19th, 3:00pm
Board Room, 351 South Hudson, Pasadena, CA 91109
This is the meeting where the hired consultants will be presenting the Facilities Master Plan update to the Facilities Sub-Committee for approval to send to the board. It is important that we have a strong showing here. Bring a friend and come help communicate to committee that Sierra Madre Schools should continue to be a district priority!
At the Facilities Sub-Committee meeting last Tuesday, we saw the first glimmers that the PUSD Board members were listening. Thanks go out to Ed Honowitz, Ramon Miramontes and Tom Selinske, PUSD Board Members who sit on the Facilities Sub-Committee, who started to question the process and who asked the hired consultants to reevaluate their facilities cuts by considering School Board policy and values and not just numbers. We have been heard, now we need to keep advocating for our school!
Also, we need to thank Superintendent Gundry who has been having discussions with Chiefs at the District and is interested in the issue of EQUITY for two important reasons: (1) the Middle School received no funding from Measure Y (the Facilities Bond previous to Measure TT), and (2) the Excellent Middle Schools plan specifies that students should have equitable access to high-quality facilities and a wide range of enrichment opportunities.
At today's subcommittee meeting Staff and Consultant final recommendations of cuts to Measure TT projects will be presented. Staff will be looking for a vote from the Sub-Committee leading to its presentation to the full Board for a vote on Tuesday, June 26.
