California Dream Act: 'Get Rid of It,' Patch Readers Say

Results of an ongoing reader poll here on Sierra Madre Patch show strong support for repealing the California Dream Act.

A recent poll of Patch readers shows that a large majority of respondents would vote to repeal the recently passed California Dream Act if given the opportunity. The poll was issued in response to news that 59th District Assembly Member with the state seeking such a repeal.

In the poll, more than 75% of respondents said they would vote to repeal the Dream Act, with the remaining number, around 23% of those who participated, saying the law should be kept in place.

The California Dream Act, signed into law by Gov. Jerry Brown on Saturday, Oct. 8, will allow illegal immigrants to receive financial aid from the state for university study once the new law takes effect in 2013. Students applying for the grants must be able to show that they are working toward legal citizenship.
