As a nice farewell gift to its graduating seniors, the Alverno X-Country Varsity and Junior Varsity squads were victorious in the Horizon League Finals held Nov. 4 at Eaton Canyon. The finals had been rescheduled from Nov. 3 due to high temperatures that exceeded CIF Southern Section regulations.

In contrast to the rainy and wet conditions at the previous meet at Eaton Canyon on Oct. 20, the League Finals meet was held under drier and much hotter conditions and it was reflected in slower times for all the runners competing.

The top two runners that finished the race didn't change. Alverno's Eryn Blakely and Audrey Davy continued their 1-2 finish domination in Horizon League meets this year. Followed by Ashley Haylett, Bianca Melkonian and Jessica Lopez, the Jaguar Varsity squad finished on top over San Gabriel Mission and League leading Sacred Heart. Helping their teammates score that victory were alternate runners  Miranda Akkari and Francesca Rueda.

Junior Varsity

The Junior Varsity team was also victorious.  Led by Adrianna Martinez, Bella Daniels-Campos, Sascha Rosemond, Victoria Pintado and Devny Osuna with assists from teammates Reagan Dowd, Andrea Gochez-Wilson, Holly Coates, Nicolette Rodriguez and Madi Daniels-Campos.

At the conclusion of the meet, the Jaguars bid farewell to graduating seniors Miranda Akkari, Sahhara Assafiri, Audrey Davy, Kelly Janzen, Bianca Melkonian and Sacha Rosemond with songs, flowers, balloon, and beautiful sentiments expressed by their teammates. Next year, the JV squad will have to step up to fill the sneakers of the graduating seniors.
