Walsh Selected as Mayor, Harabedian to Serve as Mayor Pro Tem

The two will serve in their respective roles for a full year.

Nancy Walsh is the new mayor of Sierra Madre and John Harabedian will serve as mayor pro tem.

The selections made by fellow council members took place at the annual reorganization meeting on Tuesday, April 23. Walsh and Harabedian will serve in their respective roles for one-year. 

Mayor Nancy Walsh has served on the council since 2010, and most recently served as mayor pro tem for the city. Prior to her election, she was a member of the Sierra Madre Senior Community Commission from 2004-2010, leading the development of the Senior Master Plan and the Hart Memorial Park House renovation plan, and establishing a partner program with Los Angeles County which generated over $80,000 for programs and services to benefit Sierra Madre seniors.

Mayor Walsh, who was raised in Hollywood, earned a B.A. from California State University in Los Angeles, and in addition to graduate studies in Public Administration, she holds a certificate in Management from the University of Southern California.  She was employed in Public Service for 30 years by the County of Los Angeles Departments of Health and Mental Health, principally as a manager and supervisor.  Before retiring in 2002, she served as Chief Executive Officer of the Coastal Cluster Health Centers.  

The Sierra Madre City Council is comprised of five members elected to four-year terms. The Council is responsible for general city policy, as well as for the appointment of the City Manager, City Attorney, and members of the City's Boards and Commissions. The honorary positions of mayor and mayor pro tem rotate among the five elected members of the City Council, and the selections are made each year in April.
