New Playground Equipment for Memorial Park

The Council and Redevelopment Agency allocated $75,000 for new equipment geared towards children 2-5 years old.

Thursday will mark the official opening of the the city's latest community development project: new playground equipment in Sierra Madre's .

The equipment, which the city says is geared toward children aged 2 to 5, was paid for with $75,000 in appropriations from the Community Redevelopment Agency.

In April of this year, the Sierra Madre City Council--serving in the dual role as the city's Community Redevelopment Agency--. This project is one of many approved by the CRA in recent months.

The designation of those monies to the particular projects came as Gov.  Jerry Brown began considering the elimination of the CRA program, which allows city's to keep additional property tax revenue for the purpose of enhancing blighted areas.

In a press release inviting Sierra Madre residents to come out to the dedication ceremony, Community and Personnel Services Director Elisa Weaver outlines some of the particulars of the new equipment. That press release is printed below in its entirety.

The ceremony will be held tomorrow, Thursday, June 30, at 5 p.m. in and is free and open to all.

The Sierra Madre City Council and Redevelopment Agency geared towards children 2 -5 years old in Memorial Park. 

Residents will enjoy a well-designed, accessible and beautiful play area.  It is a wonderful space for kids; bright and colorful, it encourages the youngsters to run around and play. The playground equipment features a wave zip slide, an ABC climbing wall, rock wall and umbrella canopies. 

The new playground also incorporates traditional equipment such as swings (two belt seat swings and two tot seat swings) and a dragon fly totter, which will appeal to a variety of ages.  The tiny tots have loved the sand pit area which has been kept in the process of renovating the playground. The installation is expected to finish this week.
