Major Road Work Coming to Lorraine Ave.

Crews will work to replace aging water main from Bennett to Sierra Madre avenues.

Crews will work on replacing a 55-year-old water main along Lorraine Avenue in the coming weeks.

Work will begin in late July, as crews will excavate the 4-foot deep, 10-inch water main and replacement of service laterals, or the pipes that lead from the main to customer meters. Aging fire hydrants will also be replaced to give fire fighters greater ease to operate, officials said.

Construction is scheduled to last for 120 calendar days, Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. The main in question will be replaced between Bennett and Sierra Madre avenues and be confined to the western-facing portion of Lorraine Avenue. One lane will be open for traffic flow in each direction as work moves along, officials said.

Funding for this project will be derived from the city's Water Capital Projects Fund at a cost of $434,170. The construction project was awarded to J. De Sigio Construction, Inc., who presented the lowest bid.

Why didn't the City do this project at the beginning of summer when there isn't all that school traffic on Loraine? They will be starting the end of July and school starts on August 15. Go figure! Those who travel on Loraine to go to Sellers, Goddard, or Cullen, will be in for a rude awakening!
