Development Headed to Skilled Nursing Property?

City press release announces neighborhood meeting to discuss proposed assisted living project on blighted site.

Sierra Madre brass issued a press release Wednesday morning announcing plans for a meeting "to receive public input for a proposed senior assisted living facility" that's apparently in some stage of the planning process.

If the project goes forward, it would be erected on the current site of the long-vacant Skilled Nursing Facility across from .

While the notice is heavy on details about the Sept. 7 meeting (see below), it only briefly touches on the specifics of the proposed building plans.

Instead, the announcement promises a 7:15 p.m. presentation on meeting night, at which point a "description of the project will be provided."

After receiving the initial press release at 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Patch replied via email with a number of questions regarding the announcement and made a round of phone calls seeking more information.

As of publication of this article, no additional information had been made available.

Elisa Weaver, the city's public information officer and director of community and personnel services, did say in an email that she had forwarded our questions to Planning Director Danny Castro.

Patch will report any response and/or additional information - such as site plans or artistic renderings - as soon as it is received.

The press release does say that the proposed project is a senior assisted living facility that "will include a 58,000 square foot, two-story building that can accommodate up to 96 residents."

The two-story building would sit on the 1.84 acre - or 80,150 square foot - property located at 245 W Sierra Madre Blvd.
