Council to Consider Spending $50,000 to Fix Up Housing Unit at Sierra Vista Park

The unit could then be used to house a low-income or very-low-income individual as a way of meeting state affordable housing goals for the city.

Know anybody market for a low-cost 962 square foot 2-bedroom home with great park access in Sierra Madre?  If so, there might soon be a place for them off of Sierra Vista Park, as the city is considering rehabilitating a one-time maintenance man's residence and rent it out as low-income housing.

The home, known as the "duty-man house," is in the upper area of the park and has been previously rented to member of the Sierra Madre water maintenance team.  It has been unoccupied for eight or nine years and is currently being used to store documents, according to a city staff report.

The City Council will discuss at Tuesday night's meeting whether to allocate $50,000 to fix up the home and get it ready to rent.

The home could be rented to a low-income or very-low-income individual as a way of helping to meet state requirements for affordable housing.  As noted in an article from Monday on a residential zoning change the Council will soon be discussing, the city is in the process of attempting to meet its state affordable housing goal for the 2008-2014 Housing Element.
