Sierra Madre Issues Green Flag Warning

Approaching storm comes with 80% chance of rain, prompting the city to issue the stage one mudflow warning.

The City of Sierra Madre at 3 p.m. today issued a Green Flag Alert, the first stage in a system designed to warn of potential mud and debris flows in the northern hillsides near the city.

The National Weather Service is forecasting an 80% chance of precipitation beginning on Friday, Nov. 4, 2011. The city automatically raises the green flag any time weather reports call for an 80% chance or more of precipitation.

According to a news release from the , "Affected residents should get ready for potential evacuation and keep close watch on weather forecasts. This includes residents of the Upper and Lower Canyon as well as any resident whose property abuts the hillsides burned by the Santa Anita Fire."
