City Council Preview: Parking, Water Ordinance, Garbage Contract

The Sierra Madre City Council will be holding its regular meeting Tuesday night and items on the agenda include a parking contract discussion, second reading of the city's revised water ordinance and a garbage contract discussion.

The parking contract discussion will center on whether to move from a 5-day enforcement contract to a 7-day one.

The water ordinance is a second reading of an ordinance revision already passed by the Council two weeks ago to make changes to the mandatory water conservation ordinance passed by the city in May.

The garbage contract discussion will focus on whether to amend the contract with the city's waste service franchise, Athens, to lock the city into a 15 or 25 year commitment with the company.

The benefits would be that Athens would provide sidewalk pressure cleaning, a service that currently costs the city $48,000 annually and is under discussion to be cut from the city's budget.

Other items include:

  • Discussion of revising zoning for the city's library and one other nearby lot.
  • Discussion of the city's marketing plans
  • A report on possibilities for implementing a green streets ordinance that would mitigate storm water pollution run-off from city streets.
The meeting is at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday night at City Hall.  The full agenda can be found here.
