Cacciotti will face fellow democrat Chris Holden in the Assembly race. A longtime Pasadena City Council member, Pasadena Sun reported Tuesday that Holden has received backing from the California League of Conservation Voters.

South Pasadena's current Assemblyman Anthony Portantino (D-La Cañada)—who is termed out—said in June he will run for . But Pasadena Sun reported last week that he may face Carol Liu for a state Senate seat instead—to avoid running against Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Burbank).

The 41st district include Sierra Madre, Altadena, Pasadena, Monrovia and South Pasadena.

The district extends through a grouping of cities in eastern Los Angeles County that are geographically linked to the western cities only through the Angeles National Forest. Those cities include San Dimas, parts of Claremont and La Verne and Upland.
