Buchanan, Capoccia Offer Donation for Little League Parade

In light of budget cuts, Mayor John Buchanan and City Council Candidate John Capoccia offered to chip in to cover costs associated with Sierra Madre Little League's annual parade.

The Sierra Madre Little League will hold an Opening Day Carnival and Parade on Saturday February 25 starting at 8:00 a.m. The parade will temporarily shut down Sierra Madre Blvd. from Baldwin Ave. to as Little Leaguers proceed to their field.

The league, a non-profit organization, requested that the City waive 50% of fees associated with the parade.

The city estimated the total cost of the parade to be $202, which covers one police officer working overtime to coordinate six volunteers. The league already paid $51 for a temporary use permit.

In light of recent budget cuts, City Staff recommended that the Council deny this request.

However, Mayor John Buchanan said at Tuesday night’s City Council meeting that he would personally cover the cost. City Council Candidate then stepped up to the podium and said he would be willing to chip in, too.
