Sleeping Man Cited for Pot Possession

The following information was supplied by the Sierra Madre Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

At 3:43 a.m. on Tuesday, July 19 Sierra Madre Police cited a man for allegedly possessing less than one ounce of marijuana in the 700 block of West Montecito Avenue. According to police reports, an officer conducting overnight parking enforcement came across the man sleeping in his car, which was parked without an overnight permit and thus, illegally.

According to the arresting officer’s report, further investigations revealed that the Woodland Hills resident was in possession of marijuana, a smoking pipe and a suspended driver’s license. The officer cited the man for the alleged offenses and then released him in the field.   

Items Stolen from Unlocked Car

At some point between 8 p.m. on Saturday, July 16 and 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 17, an unknown suspect or suspects entered an unlocked car and stole 12 music CDs in a case, $5.00 in U.S. coins, the car dash drawer, clear tub of peppermints, a small gold ID bracelet with “Melissa” engraved on the front, and a bag of newly purchased clothing.  According to police reports, the Sierra Madre resident whose items were stolen had previously left her car unlocked in her driveway. The victim reported a total loss that was valued at $895.

Two Parolees Stopped, One Cited for Alleged Drug Use

At 10:55 p.m. on Tuesday, July 19, a Sierra Madre police officer stopped a 27-year old Alhambra motorist at the intersection of Foothill Boulevard and Michilinda Avenue for an unspecified vehicle code violation.  After making the stop, the officer determined that the driver and passenger were both on active parole. A female in the rear passenger-side seat was arrested for suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance. The woman was later released with a citation.

Police Arrest Man for Allegedly Stealing Car Registration Tab

At 7:09 a.m. on Thursday, July 21, a Sierra Madre police officer stopped 100 E. Montecito Ave.  a 42-year old Duarte motorist in the 100 block of East Montecito Avenue for an unspecified Vehicle Code violation.  

According to police reports, further investigation revealed that the man had an expired driver’s license, expired vehicle registration, and a stolen registration tab attached to the rear plate.  The driver was arrested and later released on a written promise to appear in court to answer to charges of “unlawful display evidence of registration.”

In the seven-day period between Sunday, July 17 and Saturday, July 23, the Sierra Madre Police Department responded to approximately 314 calls for service. Of those reports, these were considered the most notable and added to the weekly crime blotter released by the SMPD.
