Sierra Madre Police Blotter: Neighbors Have Physical Altercation Over Stolen Electricity

The following information is from the Sierra Madre Police Department regarding incidents reported form Dec. 30 to Jan. 5.

Wednesday January 1, 2014
In the early morning hours a physical altercation took place in the 00 block of East Montecito Avenue. Earlier in the day, two neighbors argued about one party stealing electricity from a neighbor. That incident ended peacefully. Shortly after midnight one party returned and confronted the other. After a short verbal argument an altercation ensued with one individual sustaining multiple injuries to the face. The other party fled and has not yet been located. The investigation revealed that both parties have a long history of business disputes with each other. 

Friday January 3, 2014
Lawn tools were stolen from a gardener’s vehicle parked at the curb in the 100 block of East Highland Avenue. The owner had only left the vehicle unattended for a few minutes as he worked in the back yard. When he returned, several items were missing from the bed of the truck. 

At approximately 7pm, a traffic collision occurred in the intersection of Baldwin Avenue and Orange Grove Avenue. A northbound vehicle travelling at 30 MPH failed to stop for the stop sign and collided with an eastbound vehicle that was already in the intersection. The driver of the northbound vehicle stated he was new to the area and was looking for street signs. Occupants of both vehicles complained of injury and were transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for examination. Both vehicles sustained major damage.

Sunday January 5, 2014
At 3am, an officer observed a vehicle driving in excess of 50 MPH on Sierra Madre Boulevard near Lima Avenue. A traffic stop was initiated and the officer determined that the driver was under the influence of alcohol. The driver (male 29 years) failed to pass any of the field sobriety tests and was subsequently booked for DUI.
