Sierra Madre Police Blotter: Car Collides With Biker, Man Runs From Cops

The following information was provided by the Sierra Madre Police Department. Arrests do not indicate convictions.

The following are selected incidents from Sept. 3 to Sept. 9.

Car Hits Young Bicyclist
Wednesday Sept. 5
At 7:30am, a traffic collision occurred when a vehicle turning north onto Canon Avenue from Laurel Avenue collided with a bicyclist travelling south along the east curb of the street. The bicyclist sustained abrasions to her arms and torso and was transported to a hospital for further evaluation and treatment. 

The bicyclist was a child and the driver alleged that she accidentally hit the gas instead of the break,.

Biker Evades Cops
Saturday Sept. 8
At 1:30am an officer attempted to stop a bicyclist for a traffic violation.  The individual failed to yield to the police emergency lights and travelled into a residential area.  When he reached the 100 block of Merrill Avenue, the bicyclist threw down his bike, shouted obscenities at the officer, ran away, and later physically resisted the officer’s attempt to search him.  The individual (male, 23 years of age) was subsequently arrested for Resisting a Police Officer. 

Collision Possibly Caused by Cell Phone
Tuesday Sept. 4
A traffic collision took place at Alegria Avenue and Mountain Trail when a vehicle entered the intersection without yielding to another vehicle travelling southbound.  No injuries were reported.  The investigation revealed that the driver of the first vehicle may have been distracted while getting directions off her cell phone screen.
