Police Blotter: Marijuana, Multiple Thefts

Police came upon two different drivers carrying marijuana last week- one of the drivers was just 18-years-old. There was also a report of a man posing as a Smart Reader Inspector.

During the week of Sunday, a March 11th, to Saturday March 17th, the Sierra Madre Police Department responded to approximately 225 calls for service. See www.crimereports.com for updated information.

Marijuana Found in Vehicles

On Friday, March 16 at 11:50 a.m., police stopped a 45-year old San Dimas motorist who was cruising by Chaparral and Carter Ave. for a vehicle code violation. Further investigation revealed that the driver had 1.1 grams of marijuana in the car and had a misdemeanor traffic warrant.  The driver was cited and released on the scene.

Then, on Saturday, March 17, police came upon a parked car with a group of people in it. Further investigation revealed that the 18-year old motorist was in possession of 4.9 grams of marijuana.  The driver was given a written citation and released on scene.

Man Posing as Smart Reader Inspector

On Tuesday, March 13 at 1:57 p.m., a Hispanic man dressed in a navy blue uniform was claiming to be a City of Los Angeles Smart Reader Inspector in the 100 blk of W. Orange Crest Ave. The man was denied entry and left in an unknown direction.

Grand Theft of Landscaping Tools

On Monday, March 12 in the 600 blk. of Ramona Ave., two males allegedly stole a hedge trimmer and a leaf blower from an unlocked van. The suspects were driving an older Honda Accord.

Petty Theft of Credit Card

At 7:29 a.m. in the 500 blk. of W. Orange Grove St., unknown suspect(s) entered an unlocked car and stole a Chevron gas station credit card.  The suspect(s) left in an unknown direction.

Identity Theft

Monday, March 12, 9:16 p.m.; This case involves the unauthorized use of the victim’s Social Security number, which resulted in the non-payment of his 2011 Federal Income Tax refund.

Wednesday, March 14, 2:41 p.m.; Use of Another’s Personal Identification to Obtain Credit/Etc.  This incident involves the unauthorized use of the victim’s credit card number for two online transactions at PayPal and T-Mobile.

Saturday, March 17, 4:00 p.m.; Use of Another’s Personal Identification to Obtain Credit/Etc.  This incident involves the unauthorized use of the victim Capital One World Master credit card number.
