Crime & Safety

Man's Body Found on Angeles Crest Highway

Shell casings were reportedly found at the scene, and the body appeared to have suffered from a possible gunshot wound, according to officials.

This morning a male body was found on a section of the Angeles Crest Highway just north of Foothill Boulevard above La Canada-Flintridge, said Sgt. Debra Herman of the Crescenta Valley Sheriff's Station.

Shell casings were apparently found at the scene of the crime, according to an official familiar with the investigation. Law enforcement reported the dead body to the Los Angeles County Department of Coroner as a "possible gunshot wound,'' assistant chief coroner Ed Winter said Thursday.

Coroner's investigators were expected to arrive on the scene for further investigation around noon, he said.

According to California Highway Patrol Officer Kevin Denmon, a motorist first spotted what he thought was a body just after 5 a.m. this morning. After making a U-turn to confirm that what he passed was indeed a body, the motorist called 9-1-1.

Highway Closure

Angeles Crest Highway three miles north of Foothill Boulevard will likely be closed, in both directions, for several more hours as homicide detectives investigate. The road has been closed at Angeles Forest Highway and Big Tujunga Canyon Road since this morning. Folks driving in from the Antelope Valley will need to find an alternate route.
