Man's Body Discovered Near Vasquez Creek

Hikers discovered the deceased man in dense brush, autopsy pending.

Officials will begin working Monday to identify the remains of a man that was discovered in the Angeles National Forest Saturday.

Hikers from Tujunga discovered the body around 6:30 p.m. near the base of a waterfall at Vasquez Creek, according to a statement released by the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department. The hikers notified officials who traversed the terrain to reach the body, but it was in an area replete with thick brush.

Coupled with the impending darkness, authorities waited until Sunday morning to retrieve the body, officials said.

Members of the Emergencies Services Detail, along with the Sheriff's Special Enforcement Bureau reached the body with the help of a helicopter.

It was not revealed how long the body may have been there.

Authorities would not say whether the deceased man was the for more than a week.
