Injured Diver Airlifted From Hermit Falls

Woman injured her back while diving up at Chantry Flats earlier Tuesday, authorities said.

A 30-year-old woman injured herself Tuesday after she went diving at Hermit Falls in the Chantry Flats area, police said.

Authorities received the call at 11:36 a.m. Sierra Madre Police notified the Temple Sheriff's Station that the Sierra Madre Search and Rescue Team was being activated to find the injured woman, said Lieutenant Edward Godfrey of the Sheriff's Department.

The injured woman received back injuries from her dive and was eventually flown out, said Sergeant Esther Doyle of Sierra Madre Police.

The woman was flown out to Huntington Memorial Hospital before 1 p.m., according to scanner reports. The extent of her injuries is unknown.

She paid for her lapse in judgment and doesn't deserve to be lambasted. It was, perhaps, a dumb thing to do, but if dumb things are fatal flaws, a bunch of us would be dead right now. These are rights of passage things that backfire. I hope her injuries are not permanent and that her accident serves as a lesson for others who might consider doing same.

Poor lady, I hope she will be okay. Some of the people posting here should be ashamed of themselves for their lack of compassion. Just remember what you posted if any of you are ever hurt in an accident.

hey! this isn't the first time, not the second, these kind of diving accidents, or jumping , or whatever daredevil stunts these "people"are doing_ this is happening on almost a daily basis! all these stunts are being recorded in the star news, the la times, the patch, the whatever newspaper. you know it's stupid yet you do it anyway. i still stand by that all these "people" should take classes from seach and rescue and maybe they can educate some of their friends. every single day the helicopters are hovering in and out of our canyons. search and rescue drops what they are doing, runto where ever they are requested, and they risk hurting themselves......for FREE!!!! please everyone that feels bad that i called a num-nut a moron for jumping off a cliff, DONATE to search and rescue. these little stunts aregetting expensive
