Foothill Avenue Home Ransacked and Robbed

The following information was supplied by the Sierra Madre Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

According to the SMPD, residents at a home in the 300 block of Foothill Avenue determined that a suspect or suspects must have entered the house at some time between 5 a.m. on Friday, June 10 and three days later, at 8:25 p.m. on Sunday, June 12. 

The residents found the interiors of their den, family room, garage and car had been ransacked and a number of items stolen in the process.

The loss included a credit card and checkbook, a television, 10 pairs of women’s shoes, miscellaneous Christmas gifts, three bottles of liquor, some luggage, clothes, miscellaneous dry and canned food, a box of children’s toys, a glass vase and three pieces of jewelry, according to the report from the SMPD.

The loss was valued at $1,562.00 and police said they did not know in which direction the suspect or suspects had fled.

Camera Equipment Stolen from Car on Manzanita Avenue

On Monday, June 13 at 6:48 a.m. Sierra Madre police responded to an auto burglary in the 300 block of Manzanita Avenue. According to the report, a locked car was broken into at some time between the evening of June 12 and the morning of June 13. 

A Canon camera, lens, tripod and bag were all stolen from the car with a total loss valued at $1,870.00, according to the SMPD.

Woman Caught Allegedly Trying to Take Scooter

A Sierra Madre resident may have prevented a case of petty theft in their own driveway when they saw a woman taking a child’s scooter from the driveway and yelled at her to stop. The incident happened at around 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 15 in the 300 block of San Gabriel Court.

According to a report from the SMPD, the resident reported seeing a woman park her van on the street walk up the driveway of the home and grab the scooter. As the woman was walking back towards her van, the victim yelled at the suspect, who then dropped the scooter, got into the van and left heading westbound on San Gabriel Court.

Forged Check Cashed at Bank of America

According to the Sierra Madre Police Department, a man had his checkbooks stolen at around 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 16. The victim also reported that someone had then forged a check for $600 and cashed is at the on Sierra Madre Boulevard.

Man Arrested for Switchblade

Sierra Madre police arrested a 42-year old Van Nuys motorist at 12:24 a.m. on Friday, June 17 at the intersection of Michillinda Avenue and Foothill Boulevard. According to police, the man was stopped for an unspecified vehicle code violation, after which the officer “learned that the driver was under the possession of a switchblade knife.” The driver was then arrested and transported to Pasadena Police Department for booking. He was later released with a citation.

Driver and Passenger Cited for Open Containers, Pot Possession

Sierra Madre police cited a 23-year old Pasadena motorist for driving with open container of alcohol at 11:30 p.m. Saturday, June 18 in the 300 block of Sierra Madre Boulevard. According to police, further investigation revealed that the driver was also in possession of marijuana along with the car’s passenger. Both the passenger and driver were cited for possession of an open container of alcohol in the car and possession of less than one ounce of marijuana.            

In the seven-day period between Sunday, June 12 and Saturday, June 18, the Sierra Madre Police Department responded to approximately 302 calls for service. Of those calls, these reports were considered the most notable by SMPD staff and subsequently added to the Sierra Madre weekly crime blotter.
