Fire in Sierra Madre's Public Works Yard

A compost pile self-combusted early Tuesday morning, according to officials.

A compost pile at the top of Sierra Madre’s Public Works yard burst into flames early Tuesday morning, according to Lt. Len Hundshamer of the Sierra Madre Police Department. The fire occurred near E Grandview Ave. and Camillo Rd.

Resident Hanna Storlie reported hearing a loud boom at around 1:30 a.m., and sent Patch the accompanying photo.

Lt. Hundshamer said the fire appeared to be self-combustible, and there was no evidence it was set by anyone. No injuries or major structural damages were reported, aside from some burned grass in the area, officials said.

The entire Sierra Madre Volunteer Fire Department responded and there was no need to contact outside departments for help. The fire was contained in about 40 minutes.

What are these "organizations that can assist educators in providing an additional incomeRead More source for school supplies?" What are the other "big retailers" besides Staples that are helping teachers with rewards programs? This is a great subject but there is little detail here beyond a link to the Staples program. Would love to read a follow up piece with more useful information.
