POLICE BLOTTER: Daylight Burglaries Reported by SMPD

Residence on N. Lima burglarized through unlocked door; another suspect smashes car window and escapes in broad daylight.

During the week beginning Sunday, Sept. 12 and ending Saturday Sept. 18, the Sierra Madre Police Department responded to approximately 273 calls for service including two burglaries, one of a residence and one of an automobile on Sierra Madre Boulevard.

On Monday, Sept. 13 at 6:19pm the SMPD officers reponded to a residential burglary in the 400 block of North Lima Street. According to police reports, one or more suspects entered the home through an open unlocked rear sliding door and stole jewelry from the master bedroom. WHile the exact time is unknown, it is believed that the crime occured between 8:15am and 5:50pm. No estimation of the value of the items lost in th burglary was immediately available.

Additionally, on Thursday, Sept. 16 at 7:06pm, the SMPD repsonded to an auto burglary at 110 West Sierra Madre Blvd., just in front of the Only Place in Town restaurant. According to statements gathered from witnesses, a male suspect smashed the rear driver's side window of a parked SUV. According to reports, the suspect stole two nursing books and a brown Coach purse. Witnesses profiled the male suspect as having been wearing blue jeans and a white tee shirt. Following the burglary, the suspect got into a newer model, 4-door, dark green Scion being driven by a female driver who was wearing black leggings and a tan top, according to witnesses. The car then left the scene on a southbound through the west parking lot. The total loss tot he burglary vistom was estimated at $950.00.
