CHP to Target Motorcycles on Angeles Crest Highway

A state grant will mean more highway patrol officers in the Angeles National Forest on Saturday.

The Altadena office of the California Highway Patrol will be stepping up on its enforcement of traffic laws on the Angeles Crest Highway on Saturday with a campaign that is meant to "reduce motorcycle-involved fatalities and injuries."

When the highway reopened last month there were in as many weeks, one of them a motorcycle accident.

California Highway Patrol officers have expressed concerns that people may not be used to the curves of the highway as it has been frequently closed to the 2009 Station Fire.

The road also has a history of motorcycle accidents: between 2007-2009, there were 10 motorcycle-involved fatalities and 195 injuries on the corridor, according to the CHP.

The office will be using state grant funding to pay for the extra patrols on the highway this weekend.
