Car Burglarized in Bailey Canyon, Prowler Peeks through Window

In the seven-day period between Sunday, Dec. 26 and Saturday Jan. 1 the Sierra Madre Police Department responded to approximately 406 calls for service. Of those calls, these were considered most notable and reported in the SMPD Police Blotter.

Monday, Dec. 27:

EVG Gas Station Fraud - Use Another’s Personal Identification to Obtain Credit at 50 S. Baldwin Avenue: Between Monday, Dec. 27 and Thursday, January 6, over 300 cases of credit and debit card identity theft were reported. Victims used their cards to buy gas between July and Dec. 27 2010, though this time period may be longer according to new reports from the SMPD.

Over Christmas weekend, the suspects for cash and retail sales, . The loss is expected to increase daily as additional victims report more fraud.

The EVG gas station closed after Christmas weekend, and detectives are seeking the owner and his associates for questioning. The on the investigation.

8:40 p.m. – Battery in the 10 block of N. Baldwin Avenue: Two parties became engaged in an argument which led to a fight in front of . Neither of the Sierra Madre residents were injured. Both declined to prosecute.

Tuesday, Dec. 28:

9:30 a.m. - Auto Burglary in Bailey Canyon: Unknown suspect(s) smashed a car’s rear window and stole a purse at . The purse contained $30 and a Card. The Bank of America card was used without permission at several stores.  

6:37 p.m. - Grand Theft Exceeding $400 in the 600 block of W. Sierra Madre Boulevard: Unknown suspect(s) stole a Canon Powershot SX 10 IS camera worth $500.00, a Dell Latitude D360 laptop computer worth $600.00, and a Blackberry Curve cell phone valued at $300.00. The three items were in the trunk of an unlocked vehicle and the driver did not realize they were missing until he checked in early December. 

Thursday, Dec. 30:

10:30 p.m. - Prowling/Peeking in Window in the 500 block of W. Sierra Madre Boulevard: An unknown suspect described as a man with light skin, 20-30 years, clean shaven and layered hair, entered a fenced yard and walked to the bedroom window. The suspect looked through the window until he made eye contact with the victim. The suspect walked away in an unknown direction after the victim saw him. 

Saturday, January 1:

1:17 a.m. – Driving Under the Influence Alcohol in the 100 block of E. Orange Grove Avenue: An officer stopped a motorist for a Vehicle Code violation. The officer determined that the Monrovia resident was under the influence of alcohol. The officer arrested the suspect and booked him for DUI at the Pasadena Police Department Jail.
