Bobcat Possibly Sighted in Sierra Madre

A resident reported seeing a small bobcat in Sierra Madre Wednesday morning.

In the latest wildlife news, a Sierra Madre resident reported possibly seeing a small bobcat Wednesday morning at around 6:30 a.m., according to Sergeant Ruben Enriquez.

The resident reported seeing the animal in the 600 block of Edgeview Drive, but when police officers responded they could not find the bobcat.

“Up until a couple days ago, we were receiving bear sighting calls almost daily,” Enriquez told Patch.

Have you seen a bobcat, bear or mountain lion in Sierra Madre recently? If you have .

That's a good question, Beverly. When I asked about other wildlife sightings, Sergeant Enriquez only mentioned the bear sightings. I'll contact Sierra Madre PD again and see what I can find out about the "fearless" mountain lion you mentioned. If that is roaming the streets regularly, it's definitely worth noting.

Do you know when your friend spoke to this officer or who it was, Beverly? That will help narrow down who knows about this matter since different officers are on duty at different times and the person I spoke with had not heard about this mountain lion.

My friend was at the car wash last week - maybe Friday?and the officer was getting the patrol car washed, and they had a chance to talk. Don't know his name though - sorry! But thanks for looking into it.

Beverly. If you walk in the upper reaches of Sierra Madre you should expect to meet with the wildlife - we are in their territory, y'know. Can't understand people being surprised that these animals are about - especially in the area you were walking - you can't get much closer to their hillside habitat than that. Would you like us to eradicate all the wildlife so you can feel safe? Please learn about living with wildlife and the precautions you should take when living in this type of town - I am assuming you are a relative newbie from the city otherwise you would not be freaked by this.

My husband was hiking back from First Water, 'right before you get to the houses' that are down the canyon from the trail. A medium-sized black bear came up the hill/ did not notice him til it got to the trail. It was totally surprised to see him, and tumbled back down the slope. My husband was also VERY surprised.
