Police spotted a bear in the front yard of a home on W Carter Ave. It appeared to be a cub, according to police reports.

The bear moved onto nearby Elm Ave. before continuing up into the hillside, away from the residential area, according to Sgt. Doyle.

Police deployed a PepperBall gun, but it was not used on the bear, according to Sgt. Doyle. The gun, which is similar to a paint ball gun, fires pepper powder and is sometimes used to scare animals back into the hillsides.

Sgt. Doyle said that it's likely the cub was the same bear spotted on Auburn Ave., though it's hard to tell because police did not make contact during that time.

Sgt. Doyle mentioned that since the bear was young, its mother may have been nearby.

Attached photo is not of the bear sighted on Wednesday.
