60 to 80mph Wind Gusts Possible Through Friday

Strong winds are moving into Sierra Madre, and the sheriff's department warns of possible downed trees, power lines and high fire danger.

The Santa Ana winds have moved into Sierra Madre and other parts of Southern California tonight, including Los Angeles, Ventura and Santa Barbara county. The widespread winds are strong, with 80mph gusts possible in the mountains and 60mph gusts possible in the valleys and coastal areas. Strong winds are expected to persist through Friday and diminish through the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

The Los Angeles Sheriff's Department has issued an alert warning residents of the potential for downed trees and power lines.

A Red Flag warning has been issued for Sierra Madre and surrounding areas, meaning that critical fire conditions are expected: the heavy winds combined with dry trees, shurbs, leaves and other debris could cause fire danger with rapid growth.
