Smoke from Madre Fire Could Cause Unhealthy Air Today

Local authorities are warning that smoke from the Madre Fire could cause unhealthy air in parts of the San Gabriel Valley on Tuesday.

In the event of unhealthy air, the Air Quality Management District advises:

Everyone should avoid any vigorous outdoor or indoor exertion; people with respiratory or heart disease, the elderly, and children should remain indoors.  Keep windows and doors closed or seek alternate shelter.  Run your air conditioner if you have one.  Keep the fresh air intake closed and the filter clean to prevent bringing additional smoke inside.  To avoid worsening the health effects of wildfire smoke, don’t use indoor or outdoor wood-burning appliances, including fireplaces.

The forecast is for parts of the Western San Gabriel Valley, the east San Gabriel Valley and the San Gabriel Mountains.

The Madre fire broke out at 5:56 p.m. on Monday and was about 5 percent contained Tuesday morning.  The above picture comes from a reader of the Diamond Bar-Walnut Patch website.
