Pinney House Mixer for Rose Float Association

The Sierra Madre Chamber of Commerce's December Mixer will be held at the Pinney House, 225 N. Lima in Sierra Madre, on Tuesday from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. 

Admission fee will be $7, with proceeds from the event being donated to the Sierra Madre Rose Float Association (SMRFA)  to help fund this year’s entry, Sierra Madre’s eightieth, in the Tournament of Roses Parade.

The Pinney house is a landmark in Sierra Madre, dating back to 1887, when Dr. Elbert Pinney built it as a 30-room hotel, the Sierra Vista Hotel. Designed by prominent architects Samuel and Joseph Cather Newsom, the building has since been used as apartments, single family residence, a boarding house, and even for a while as a sanitorium.

In 2003, the current owners, Greg and Judy Asbury, bought the house and they have been restoring it ever since, investing lots of time, money and love into the historic structure.  They are exploring the idea of converting the 10,000 sq. foot structure, which has been used in several movies, including Bob Hope’s “The Seven Little Foys” and Barbra Stanwyck’s “The Great Man’s Lady,” into a bed and breakfast.

Robert Young, president of SMRFA, will share a video presentation of this year’s float, Colorful Imagination at the mixer.
