Flash Flood Warning Monday for San Gabriel Foothills, Mountains

There is a flash flood warning in effect Monday for the San Gabriel foothills and mountains with the local forecast from the National Weather Service showing a 20 percent chance of thunderstorms Monday night.

The Weather Service warns there could be isolated pockets of heavy rain anywhere in the mountains and foothills Monday, though the eastern sections are more at risk.

The weather is the result of the remnants of Tropical Storm Ivo combined with monsoonal storm cell activity.

The weather system has already affected Inland Southern California with flash flooding and mud flows in mountain areas (pictured above), which have resulted in the death of one person west of the desert city of Needles.

Recent burn areas and stream beds that carry water in the wet season are at most risk of mud flow or flooding during a flash flood and are best to be avoided during the warning period.
