Don't Believe Anything Gun Control Proponents Say

There is a coordinated attack on our right to keep and bear arms. Mayor Bloomberg, one of the richest men in the world, spends millions of dollars trying to convince us that guns are evil and millions to elect and protect politicians who are anti-gun. Gun control groups spend millions more on legal scholarship denigrating the Second Amendment. Mayor Bloomberg, and other gun control proponents, frequently state that they are not trying to interfere with the rights protected by the Second Amendment and that no one is trying to confiscate guns. They portray any concern that gun registration will lead to confiscation as ludicrous or paranoid.  They state no one is interested in regulating hunting rifles.

They are lying.

Confiscation of all privately owned guns is the end result desired by many gun control proponents and they will use gun registries to confiscate guns. In fact, they already are. New York City has long required registration of all firearms in the City, including long guns (i.e., rifles and shotguns). Recently, the New York City Police Department has used the registry to contact hundreds of citizens who own weapons that the City contends are illegal. The City is demanding that these “illegal weapons” be surrendered or removed from the City. Notably, these “illegal weapons” are not “assault weapons” or unusually dangerous weapons – they are long guns that can hold more than 5 rounds of ammunition. The weapons include bolt action rifles, lever action rifles, and small caliber target rifles. For example, New York City contends Winchester 94 rifles are illegal (the 94 indicates the year the rifle was first marketed – in 1894). In other words, ordinary hunting and target rifles. These rifles were legal to own when they were originally registered with the City. They are legal everywhere else in the country. The City simply changed the law and is now using the registry to confiscate the guns.

This incident proves at least two things. First, gun owners are not being paranoid – government officials will use registries to confiscate guns. Second, some government officials want to get rid of all firearms, even hunting rifles which are almost never used to commit homicides (more homicides are committed with hands and fists than rifles and shotguns).

So, the next time a gun control advocate states that no one wants to confiscate your guns, you'll know it's a lie.
