OL' MALIBU shots reveal Olympics, Latigo and Gary Cooper?

Recognize this house from the film "Mildred Pierce?"

Big thanks to Malibuite Mari Stanley for sending me several shots yesterday!

Mari's collection includes the Malibu Olympics (date unknown, but old), 1978 Downtown (Credit:William Preston Bowling) and this cool shot of a possible Gary Cooper at Pt. Dume. Not sure about him being Mr. Cooper, but let's just pretend and say it is...

Plus, a couple shots of Latigo from my collection. Amazing stuff... and we'll keep it coming!

(If you want your shots posted, send shots to askfireball@fireballtim.com)

Love these old photos of Malibu, Thanks, but the Pic of the house at "Latigo Shores" with the pier in the background is making me scratch my head . Was there more than the Kellers Cove Pier and the Paradise Pier ? Is this Picture reversed? The shore line does not look like Paradise Cove , Latigo or Kellers Cove. Parts of the old concrete hwy are still on Latigo Point but the pier is throwing us off. Somebody? Tim? Ben Marcus?

The shot of the house is actually from the movie, MILDRED PIERCE. I believe the Pier is an optical effect and not real. The beginning of the movie takes place on the pier and was a story point. Wanted to see if you guys caught that!

The shot of the cycling road race was the 1932 Olympics, that would be the Roosevelt Highway in the photo. I can find information that the race began in More Park (Moorpark) to Oxnard, down the Roosevelt Highway and ended in Santa Monica....yet I also find photos of cyclists entering the track @ the Coliseum although it might be different races such as team or shorter distance than the 100km that this photo represents. LA Public Library archival online library has some incredible photos that are well worth a visit, excellent rainy day activity. Search term "Malibu" brought up 28 pgs of images. Have fun with the Pirate's Cove images, I think I recognize some neighbors! http://photos.lapl.org/carlweb/jsp/search_page.jsp
