Alverno High School Presents Antigone Devised
Alverno High School is proud to present Antigone Devised based on Jean
Anouilh and Sophocles texts on November 8 and 9 at 7:00 p.m. and November 10 at 2:30 p.m. at St. Rita’s Church O’Malley Hall.
Using music, dance and screen projections, Antigone Devised is Alverno High
School's adaptation of Jean Anouilh's adaption of the famous Greek tragedy. Anouilh's version of Antigone is not set in the ritualized and strictly ordered Greek world of the original, but in the modern world where gods have disappeared and heads of state are the forces that determine and manipulate the fates of individuals. Originally produced in Paris in 1942, Antigone's story of faithfulness to her dead brother and his proper burial and defiance to the dictator Creon resonated with the French audience as they saw it as their own resistance to German occupation.
The cast of Antigone Devised includes frosh Arianna Munoz as Antigone; senior Cassie Shima as Creon; junior Erika Winstanley as Ismene; senior Karmah Eldesouky as the nurse; senior Maeve McLiam as the first guard; senior Victoria Pintado as the second guard; frosh Kelsie Khonsari as the third guard; junior Gabby Prado as the messenger; sophomore Madison Carmenate as the page; sophomore Brianna Gomez as Eurydice; chorus
members played by sophomore Amy Aghajanian, frosh Kathleen Huckler, frosh Jillian Kislow, frosh Moondera Rabb, and junior Christina Vagenas.
