Triple Digit Temps Threaten Sierra Madre

A heat wave that could produce 105-degree days in the valleys, is likely to leave Sierra Madre feeling pretty toasty, too.

Look out, Sierra Madre, there's another heat wave sizzling through the Southland that could bring temperatures in excess of 100 degrees to town.

The National Weather Service (NWS) on Tuesday issued a "special weather statement'' for valleys and foothills of Southern California that warns of temperatures reaching 105 and 107 degrees.

The hot weather is of particular concern for Sierra Madre's seniors, which prompted the city to release during the .

The warmer-than-normal temperatures should drop later in the week, as cooler air moves in, according to the weather service. 

Sierra Madre's extended forecast for the next few days shows Wednesday and Thursday temps nearing 100 degrees and both days expecting light winds of 5-10 mph.

Friday is expected to dip into the upper 80s, with Saturday hitting the mid to low 80s. Saturday day also brings a slight chance of showers. 

The NWS statement suggested folks stay in air conditioned spaces or under shade for the hottest part of the day, to check on elderly neighbors, and regardless of whether you leave the car windows cracked--do not leave pets or children inside vehicles.

The temperatures can skyrocket to life-threatening levels fairly quickly, according to the weather service's warning. 

And because many Sierra Madre is situated with the foothills of Angeles National Forest as its backyard, folks should be mindful that high temperatures mixed with off-shore winds can create hazardous fire conditions.
