NWS: Heatwave Expected to Continue for Days

Highs are expected to peak at more than 100 degrees through the weekend.

Be prepared to crank up your air conditioner or head to the coast: temperatures in Sierra Madre are expected to peak at 103 degrees today and continue to reach the upper 90’s and flirt with 100+ through Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.

The excessive heat is due to a combination of high pressure over the desert and barely any wind.

This morning there is about 57% humidity in Sierra Madre and a dew point of 62 degrees, which has the potential to cause thunderstorms.

There is a 20 percent chance of thunderstorms on Friday and Saturday after 11 a.m. in Sierra Madre.

Evening temps will offer some relief, with lows in the high 60’s.

And if you can’t stand the heat this weekend, you may want to head down to Santa Monica pier. The Saturday and Sunday highs will be a comfortable 74 and 72 degrees, respectively.

The NWS reminds people that leaving children, pets and the elderly in cars during excessive heat is extremely dangerous, as interior car temperatures can rise very quickly.
