High Wind Warning Still in Effect in Mountains

High winds buffeted the Southland today (Tuesday), especially
in the Antelope Valley and the San Gabriel Mountains, creating potential perilous road conditions.
   
A high wind warning signifying an expectation of sustained winds of at
least 40 miles per hour and gusts of at least 58 mph was scheduled to be in effect until 3 a.m. Wednesday in the Antelope Valley and the San Gabriels, in both Los Angeles and Ventura counties.   

In the San Gabriels, gusts could reach 65 mph, according to the National Weather Service. 

This morning, the highest gust recorded was 61 mph at Whitaker Peak in the San Gabriels. Gusts of around 50 mph were recorded in the Antelope and Santa Clarita valleys.   

The seven-day forecast for Sierra Madre from the National Weather Service: 

  • This Afternoon: Sunny, with a high near 79. West southwest wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.
  • Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 57. West southwest wind 10 to 15 mph becoming light southwest in the evening. Winds could gust as high as 20 mph.
  • Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 84. North northwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming west southwest in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 15 mph.
  • Wednesday Night: Clear, with a low around 58. West southwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light and variable in the evening. Winds could gust as high as 15 mph.
  • Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 84. Light and variable wind becoming southwest 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon.
  • Thursday Night: Clear, with a low around 61.
  • Friday: Sunny, with a high near 88.
  • Friday Night: Clear, with a low around 65.
  • Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 95.
  • Saturday Night: Clear, with a low around 64.
  • Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 91.
  • Sunday Night: Clear, with a low around 63.
  • Monday: Sunny, with a high near 85.
