1. Pasadena

We are fortunate to live next to one of Southern California’s premier luxury resorts, the Langham Huntington. This resort sports several fancy restaurants, a luxurious pool, and a world-class spa and salon. Simply walking around the premises takes you into another realm; one that doesn’t remind you of the bills that need to be paid, or the jam-packed schedule. Spend a weekend, or if you’re fortunate enough, several days relaxing a stone’s throw away from home. Trust us, it won’t feel like it.

Sure, we all know Santa Barbara is where the rich and famous go to escape the hustle of tinsel town. Santa Barbara is known for its rich scenery and Mediterranean vibe. It also costs a pretty penny to vacation here. But since you are saving big bucks on airfare by not traveling out of the state or country, you’d still save a lot by stay-cationing here and get an ultra-luxurious experience. Consider staying at the Hotel Oceana, a lovely resort with ocean and harbor view rooms. If you’re vacationing without the kids, the hotel currently has a “Couples Retreat Package” which includes a wine tour, horseback riding, breakfast and bike rentals starting at only $399 a night. General room accommodations start at under $200 a night.

4. Dana Point, Orange County

Dana Point is a gem hidden in southern coastal Orange County, a shy cousin to Newport Beach and Laguna Beach, you could say. Located just south of Laguna Beach off of the Pacific Coast Highway, Dana Point has that off-the-map seclusion many of us crave while vacationing. This small town has a population of only 36,000 and is less flashy and than the aforementioned surrounding cities. A prime hotel to stay at is the Blue Lantern Inn. Perched on a bluff overlooking the harbor and Pacific, this inn has the intimate feel of a bed and breakfast. The inn offers a breakfast buffet, afternoon wine and hors d'oeuvres, clean rooms, and a cozy fireplace in the lobby for chilly nights. You can also sit on your private deck and sip wine while you watch the sunset. Right now, take advantage of their internet offer; buy one night get the second half-off!

5. Hollywood Bed & Breakfast

If you'd like to stay close, but still venture out of the valley, try a stay at The Secret Garden. Located in the Hollywood Hills on Laurel Canyon Boulevard, The Secret Garden will let you experience all of the treasures of the Hollywood lifestyle, tranquily. The Secret Garden is located just one block north of the famed Sunset Strip and within a few minutes, walking distance, of the Chateau Marmont, the House of Blues and many other restaurants.
