Ascension Church Hires New Youth Minister

August 15 marked the first day at Ascension Church for Joanna Harrell, aka "Jobi."

The leaders of Sierra Madre’s selected a new Youth Minister last month in Joanna “Jobi” Harrell, Rector Michael A. Bamberger announced recently.

August 15 marked the first day on the job for Harrell, who came to Ascension Church from her most recent position at Children’s Minister for Kindergarten through Fifth Grade at All Saints Church in Pasadena.

Harrell earned a degree in oboe performance from the Hartt School at the University of Hartford in Connecticut.

In 2001 she moved to California and as Director of Christian Education at Pasadena’s St. Andrew’s Church, honed her skills as both a music instructor and minister.

Originally hailing from the small farming community of Ypsilanti, Michigan, Harrell has said that Sierra Madre now feels like home.

Harrell is also an appointed member to the Los Angeles Commission on Ministry, a member of the National Association for Episcopal Christian Education Directors.
