Sierra Madre's Pinney House Hits the Market

Queen Anne-style structure has rich history and unique architectural design to go along with its hefty asking price.

An architectural treasure and oddity unlike perhaps any other in Sierra Madre, the castle-like Pinney House located at 225 N. Lima St. is currently on the market with an asking price of a cool $2.9 million.

Designed and built back in 1887 by brothers Samuel and Joseph Cather Newsom, the structure has served a number of purposes over the years, including use as boarding house, apartment complex, film set, dance studio - even a sanatorium at one point, according to Curbed L.A. In a recent post, the all-things-real-estate blog touted the building as a "landmark house designed by a pare of architect brothers from ye olden days."

The building was originally commissioned by a former Civil War surgeon for use as a hotel, according to Curbed. That 30-room "carriage trade hotel" was intended to cater to folks headed west during the Los Angeles real estate boom between 1885 and 1888, according to the official Pinney House website.

Following its many incarnations, the house has most recently been remodeled into a single family residence. Though, at 10,000 square feet and 10 bedrooms, the house could easily accommodate a few generations of that "single family."

So if you're in the market for a house that can not only house your basketball team of sons and daughters, has the place for you and yours and theirs.
