In Search of Sierra Madre's Best Burgers

From lamb burgers to Double-Doubles, we've searched all over Sierra Madre and a bit outside of town too for our picks.

Southern California is known as a hub for amazing burgers. So it's no wonder then that Sierra Madre offers its own high-caliber selections. What's more, nearby Arcadia also has a few outstanding burger joints that are just too good not to add to our list.

From experimental food-forward designs to old-fashioned tasty, these burgers can and will leave you satisfied in a number of different ways, depending on what you're looking for.

Though we don't claim to be ending any and all arguments about just who makes the best burger around, we think anyone would be hard-pressed not to have these nearby burger joints on their list.

Sierra Madre’s newest eatery may have only opened recently, but it's already serving up burgers well tasty enough to make the cut. The Grilled Prime 8 oz. Burger gets the job done and the chef keeps it simple with cheddar cheese, arugula, tomato and Russian dressing. There's also a Lamb Burger on the menu for those equipped with more exploratory taste buds. That one comes with halloumi cheese, bibb lettuce and a juicy tomato slice.

This family-friendly restaurant has dedicated nearly an entire page of the menu to their “Famous Burgers.” With nearly a dozen different takes, you’re sure to find what you crave; the only hard part is making a decision. Even vegetarians are taken car of with a delicious Spinach Nut Burger complete with a homemade patty of spinach, mushrooms, rice, peanuts and sesame seed. You can also get any beef patty subbed out for a Garden Burger or turkey patty at no extra charge. The hamburgers come with your choice of several sides and hover in the $9- $10 range.

It would be hard to debate that the famous Double-Double isn’t worthy of anyone’s best burger list for, well, anywhere. This family-owned California chain is a destination many from out of state have on their to-do lists, even above (or at least equal to) Disneyland or a visit to the Hollywood Wax Museum. You will have to head to nearby Arcadia to find the closest location, but it's on the north side of town and only a few minutes from Kersting Court. Perhaps best of all, the drive-thru stays open late, another plus for those late night cravings.

But subs aside, this little shop also serves up some pretty mean burgers. Make your own or be daring and choose a specialty from the menu. The "Black Dog Saloon" has bacon, pepper jack, grilled onions, fries and BBQ sauce. The "Wacked Stacked" includes pastrami, bacon, grilled chiles, and fries. For the spicy-lovers, try Agent Orange, made with grilled habaneros and onions, pepper jack, cilantro slaw and chipotle-mayo. That's a least a double-yum factor and, starting at $7.50, they won't bust your burger budget either.

Bun Bun Tea House

If you’re looking to be adventurous, try the unique selection of burgers at Bun Bun Tea House, located in Arcadia. Their Taiwanese take on the American Burger results in tasty inventions. Try the Shrimp Burger or the Tower Burger, which includes a fried egg. There’s also the Pork Burger and Crispy Rice Burger. Pair with a boba tea and let your taste buds go wild.
