Library to Charge for DVD Rentals July 1

Residents will be charged $1 for DVD rentals starting July 1. Previously, DVDs were loaned free of charge.

Beginning July 1, checking out DVDs at the will cost $1 per week. The fee applies to new releases, feature films and other entertainment, though educational DVDs are exempt.

Previously, DVD rentals did not incur a fee.

Overdue DVD fines will double from $1 a day to $2 a day.

The new DVD fee is just one of many fee increases enacted by the Sierra Madre City Council. The Council last month approved a slew of other fee increases, including overnight parking, filming and temporary use permits, certain police and fire fees as well as entry fees for the Mount Wilson Trail Race, Fourth of July Parade and Halloween window painting.

The decision to increase fees was made in an effort to balance the city's budget.

What do you think- is the $1 DVD rental fee too high? Will you still rent DVDs from the library? Tell us in the comments.
