Rain Forecast Prompts Possible Flood Alert

With debris still littering the streets, the rain forecast for next week prompted the Department of Public Works to urge residents to take precaution with their wind storm clean up.

Sunday night brings a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 10 p.m., and Monday and Tuesday could bring additional rain, according to the National Weather Service.

Though the forecast is still a few days off, it's a good idea to keep an eye on the weather over the weekend. Localized flooding is possible during rain, and wind storm debris can cause an additional hazard. The DPW advises residents not to put their debris on roadways in lieu of the possibility of the storm.

Officials from L.A. County Public Works said in a statement that they are prepared for the rain, and special inspections are being made in wind-damaged communities like Sierra Madre to see if any channels need additional cleaning. However, it will still be some weeks before all roads are fully cleared of debris. The city said it anticipates all roads will be clear by the end of the month.

"The potential for localized street flooding could be serious if we get significant amounts of rainfall," said DPW spokesperson Bob Spencer in a statement. "Residents of impacted communities need to stay alert to the possibility of such flooding."
